MARTIN BUSER FIRST TO ANVIK –
WINS MILLENNIUM ALASKAN HOTEL FIRST MUSHER TO THE YUKON AWARD
Anchorage, Alaska - Friday, March 8, 2013 - Northern Outfitters Pro-Staffer Musher Martin Buser (Bib # 2) of Big Lake, Alaska, was the first to arrive at the Anvik Checkpoint at 2:17 this morning Alaska Time (6:17 Eastern) with 14 dogs.
Chef Bobby Sidro of The Millennium Alaskan Hotel prepared Martin a five-course meal of Red King crab stuffed Portobello mushrooms and smoked sockeye salmon cucumbers with gourmet cheeses, Alaskan clam chowder, roast duck salad with mixed greens, 14 oz. ribeye steak topped with a cognac and Alaskan Amber sauce accompanied by jumbo prawns and bacon wrapped sea scallops served with grilled asparagus and four cheese risotto cakes. Dessert was an assorted fresh fruit tart. Four wine pairings accompanied each course.
Buser’s “After Dinner Mint” of $3,500 in one dollar bills presented on an Alaskan Gold Pan accompanied by a bottle of Dom Perignon was presented by Patrick Cashman of The Millennium Hotel. Nice way to end a meal.
Buser declared his mandatory 8-hour layover in Anvik so he could enjoy the feast. His wife Kathy arrived by snow machine just in time to share the meal.
Let's just hope he's not too sleepy to run after this! I know I would be.
